Scholarships

January 2006

kids1 During our “elephanttour” we will give an “elephantafternoon” on primary schools in the neighbourhood. We will sing the “elephantsong” together, give elephantlessons in both Thai and English, and show a documentary about the life of an elephant in Thailand, and ofcourse we will make a group photo of the children together with Silver Flower and Sri Nuan! Most important is that the children can meet with the elephants and for example can feed them bananas.

The primary schools are within the same temple complex where we will stay with the elephants, which means they will be able to meet and learn to know them from close by for the 5 days we are staying. We hope that because of our visit the children will learn how important it is to protect these special animals. Because we want to leave more then a smile on their faces, but also give structural help for a better future of these children, on every school we are going to visit we will give away a so called “scholarship” for three of the students.

A scholarship for a student is worth 1.000 Bath (20 euro’s). With this the student can buy books and clothing for the new schoolyear. The head of the school may choose three students which are poor but are also eager to learn.

Each templecomplex also has it’s own monkschool. Here we would like to give away an extra two scholarships for the monk students, as a way of showing our appreciation that we are allowed to stay at their templecomplex.

We would like to give the opportunity to our donors and “friends of” to support a (monk)student. We will take record of whom we are giving the scholarships to and will write down their name and address, to make it possible to correspond with the students you sponsored as well. Would you like to support a student? Please donate 20 euro’s into our account: 1675200, Bring the Elephant Home in Vlaardingen and refer to “scholarship elephanttour”(look here for more details), and sent an e-mail to scholarship@bring-the-elephant-home.nl with your name and address. This way we are able to bring you into contact with the student!

Thank you so much for doing so, and don’t forget to forward this message to friends or relatives who have always wanted to support a child, cause a more direct form of support is hardly available! On behalf of the elephants and the children, thank you so much!
