Update Chang Yim

Chang Yim’s (3 months old) life in the Elephant Nature Park is an adventure every day. Together with his friend Faa Mai (6 months old) he is running through the fields every day, followed by a whole herd of worried elephants. They play in the mud together, rolling in and throwing with the sand, try to climb on top of each other. It’s so beautiful to see them grow up like this, free and without any troubles. And the best thing: they can stay there for the rest of their lives. The families of Faa Mai and Chang Yim are joining each others company most of the time now. With the young elephants Faa Sai and Thong Jan, this is the youngest, most active and entertaining family. All activities of this group are observed daily by all volunteers and visitors. The best ‘elephant show’ you can imaging. And no training or whatsoever is involved! Click more to continue reading and watch more pictures of Chang Yim and Faa Mai. Mother Dok Ngeon, who was taking care of Faa Mai before Chang Yim was born, is not that much interested in Faa Mai anymore. She even pushes Faa Mai away when she is worried about Chang Yim. Sometimes she even doesn’t allow Faa Mai to drink milk with her. Only when Chang Yim drinks milk with her too, she allows Faa Mai to drink as well. The difference between Faa Mai and Chang Yim is huge. Faa Mai is much more calm, sleeps on the lap of Lek or Pom in the afternoon, while listening to their songs. Chang Yim tries to challenge everybody, loves to push or chase people and is way too busy to sleep in the afternoon. His mahout and Pom are training him a little bit already, in a very cute way. This is necessary, because in a few months this behavior can become dangerous.  Every afternoon Pom is trying to calm him down, with songs, by showing him Faa Mai’s gentle behavior. A few times he did fall asleep with Pom. But withing a few seconds he almost jumps up to start a new wild game. Like he has no minute to loose…
