Upcoming event: Trees for Elephants volunteer weekend

With our project in the Isaan we aim to create a natural environment and food for the elephants in Baan Pai Noi, generate income for elephant families (eg. mahout home stay project, fertilizer or elephant dung paper), to have an alternative for begging so that in the future the elephants can stay at home.

In August 2008 30,000 trees have been planted to create a a future elephant island, the end of November 2008 the first elephant Nok Noi has been brought to the village and we organized our first homestay. A good start, but a lot still needs to be done! That’s why we organize the Trees for Elephants Volunteer Weekend on the island.

During this weekend we need to take care of the planted trees: apllying fertilizer, watering, plant banana trees and other elephant food plants to feed Nok Noi, cut grass for Nok Noi, collect seeds to grow more trees and to generate income to take care of Nok Noi. During this weekend we will stay with the villagers (homestay) and work together with the local people. A group of BTEH-donors from the Netherlands will join this event (6 pax), as well as the youth groups of the villages. Other volunteers are very welcome to join, but need to pay for the costs themselves.
